Waco VI

God, I love the Waco Indie Film Festival.

What a week I had in Texas with friends old and new, and one of the loveliest, most supportive communities out there. 6th time in Waco overall, 4th time at the festival.

I wanna say thanks to the Waco Indie team who trusted me with so many things this year. I’m honored and humbled, and as always, I can’t wait to be back.

Congrats to many loved ones who won much-deserved awards this year.

Here’s a taste, truly, only a glimpse of the excitement:

With Creative Waco’s Fiona absent this year, her team came up with a… creative solution.

The week started with an excellent road trip from DFW to Waco with Sam (the most gracious host!) Tara, and Taylor. Kolachis and good times were had

We were on a BILLBOARD, you guys!

Finally met the adorable Jane Doe!

Stayed at Lori’s where props from the shoot of Blood and Sex Over ambition still remain 🤣

Speaking of BASOA, I was very grateful to co-host the filmmakers’ location tour this year, giving the perspective of someone who now shot two films in Waco. We even stopped by the East Terrace of Historic Waco, aka – our interior for BASOA!

We also stopped by an old timey (and stunning) Gulf gas station!

Which is where we got that selfie with Marchelle and Taylor.

And since it’s absolutely mandatory…

I ate some tacos

Sat on a panel about adaptations with my buddies Greg Kasunich (director of Blood and Sex Over Ambition) and Matthew Decker, hosted by the lovely Katie Bignell of Festival Formula

Saw a SpaceX capsule

Said hi to Beth while she was doing a facebook live for KWBU. Oops!

Got ready for the afterparty (i.e. Waco Surf!) then Lazy Rivered at Waco Surf (AKA the longest lazy river in the world!)

Celebrated Lori’s bday

Got to spend some quality time with BASOA EP Norman Buckley and even walk him through our interior location

Made Rachel break the law to give me a ride

Chen Drachman moderating a short film block at the 2026 Waco Independent Film Festival, featuring Camille Ramos, Bob Morely and Eliza Taylor.

Moderated a Q&A with the lovely Camille, Bob and Eliza

And watched bunch of filmmakers acting like kids in the STEAM’s center immersive room

I think it’s safe to say I had a blast 😃

See you next year, Waco!
