The Many Lives of Anne Frank

I’m not going to lie. Receiving an advance copy of a book makes me feel special.

But considering yours truly, as well as the little film that could, are in the book, the team of The Many Lives of Anne Frank was kind enough to send me a copy.

It felt a little meant to be when Ruth Franklin, author of The Many Lives of Anne Frank, wanted to talk about The Book of Ruth for her book.

It was also a lovely, fascinating conversation that took place in Tel Aviv in the summer of 2023 when we were both visiting.

Here’s a little bit about the book, which comes out on 1/27/2025 – International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

In this innovative biography, Ruth Franklin explores the transformation of Anne Frank (1929–1945) from ordinary teenager to icon, shedding new light on the young woman whose diary of her years in hiding, now translated into more than seventy languages, is the most widely read work of literature to arise from the Holocaust.

Comprehensively researched but experimental in spirit, this book chronicles and interprets Anne’s life as a Jew in Amsterdam during World War II while also telling the story of the diary—its multiple drafts, its discovery, its reception, and its message for today’s world.

Dealing with Anne as an icon has interested me for a long time, which you know if you had a chance to watch the film.

Do you think we should do an event together? Because I do. And to that I have to say – watch this space 😉
